GCHS boys’ XC wins Great Bend meet
GREAT BEND - Three top 10 finishers, led by senior Hayden Nemechek’s fourth-place finish, paced the Garden City Buffaloes’ boys’ cross country to the team title on Thursday at Great Bend’s Lake Barton Golf Course.It was the season opening meet for the Buffs and another senior, Cate Wiese, paced the girls’ squad to a third-place finish by placing sixth overall.Nemechek, the defending Western Athletic Conference champion and WAC Runner of the Year from 2023, clocked a 16:18.03 for his fourth-place finish as Southeast of Saline’s Brayden Walker won with a time of 16:08.58.Teammates Trevor Fry (16:37.76) and Taran Castro (16:44.06) placed fifth and seventh, respectively, as the Buffs totaled 53 points.
