HAYS – The Garden City High School softball squad’s first venture on the road for the 2025 spring season came at defending Western Athletic Conference champion Hays on Tuesday.

HAYS – The Garden City High School softball squad’s first venture on the road for the 2025 spring season came at defending Western Athletic Conference champion Hays on Tuesday.

The second non-Western Athletic Conference softball doubleheader of the early 2025 season went almost as well as the first one.

Maysen Kurene-Iwikau had quite the day.

PRATT -Yina Ballesta Vargas tossed her fifth shout of the season, Maria Avendano Fori smashed two home runs, and Garden City run ruled Pratt, 8-0 in five innings, during the first game of a doubleheader on Wednesday at Pratt.

Daryelin Rivas Chavez and Keiry Abreu both homered, Yina Ballesta Vargas struck out eight, and Garden City beat Dodge City, 10-6, Wednesday in the first game of a doulbeheader at Tangeman Sports Complex.

There are just three seniors on the Garden City High School softball roster for the 2025 season, and only two of those played the majority of the 2024 campaign when the team suffered its only losing record in Coach Trina Mai’s 12 seasons.

Six returning starters will bolster the lineup for the Garden City High School softball team when it opens its 2025 season on Thursday, April 3, with a home doubleheader against Scott City.

One swing of the bat changed everything.
