LAWRENCE - After trailing 5-0 at the end of two innings, and then 6-0 after the top half of the fourth, Garden City High School’s softball team found itself back in the Class 6A quarterfinal game with Topeka-Washburn Rural.
When the Garden City High School softball team finished third in the Class 6A state tournament in 2017, there was a good explanation for the team’s success.
After qualifying for the Class 6A state softball tournament in 2014, 2016, 2017 and then again in 2021, it had almost become a foregone conclusion for Garden City High School that they would reach the final elite eight teams at the end of May.
