Harris, Nemechek named Athletes of Week
Hayden Nemechek and Piper Harris have been named the male and female Athletes of the Week, respectively, through voting in the weekly contest.Both are student-athletes at Garden City High School.Harris is one of the senior leaders on the Garden City High School volleyball team.
GCHS volleyball goes 5-0 to win Liberal Invite
LIBERAL - Saturday was the day that Garden City High School volleyball coach Trista Bailey thought might happen at some point during the 2024 season.After starting the season with a 4-6 record and dropping four matches that went the full three sets, the Buffs rolled to a 5-0 record in winning the Liberal Invitational.In doing so, they won four matches in straight sets and then defeated Western Athletic Conference rival Dodge City in a three-setter, losing the first set 16-25 before taking the Demons in the next two, 25-21 and 25-14.Earlier in the day, the Buffs swept Colby (25-23, 25-23), Hugoton (25-13, 25-13), Liberal (25-15, 25-18) and Meade (25-17, 25-13).“We didn’t have a ton of turnaround time between our tough losses on Thursday (going 1-2) and our first serve on Saturday,” Bailey said.
