MURPHY’S LAW: Joy of sports give a chance to escape daily life

Sometimes I think the joy of sports gets overlooked.I was in a couple of gyms watching some really good high school volleyball, and then got to see a good football game this week.I looked around at the crowds of parents, students, fans, family, and school staff, and everyone was having a good time.Obviously, the fans of the winning team had a little better time, but no one walked out of those gyms or stadiums sorry they went.The escape that sports gives us seems particularly important these days.And that’s what sports gives us, a chance to escape what’s going on around us that carries much more weight.No one talks about all the seriousness in their daily lives when they are at these games watching these young people perform.I remember games days.

MURPHY’S LAW: No amount of money is worth CTE symptoms

Money seems to muddy a lot of waters.Thursday night I got home, flipped on the TV to try and catch the end of the Miami Dolphins-Buffalo Bills football game.I heard Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was out of the game and in concussion protocol.Concussions happen all the time in football — more than we’ll ever know — but Tagovailoa has had serious concussion issues in his career.This is the third concussion he has suffered that is known.I don’t know how many he had in high school or college or how many he’s had in the NFL that aren’t reported.I know it’s easy for me to sit back and say it’s probably time to quit before the brain injuries become so serious he cannot recover, however, it’s time.First of all, he may have already gone past the point of no return with brain injuries, and secondly, no matter how much money he would forfeit for quitting, that money won’t do him any good if he is unable to function some day.Under his four-year, $212.4 million contract, Tagovailoa has $132 million fully guaranteed.
