Buffalo girls’ golf team takes second at 6A regional

WICHITA - The return to a familiar golf course proved to be beneficial on Monday for the Garden City High School girls’ golf team.Playing at Sim Park Golf Course in Wichita, the site where they had competed earlier in the fall season at the Wichita North Invitational, the Buffs secured their ticket to the Class 6A state tournament next week by placing second behind new 6A powerhouse Maize High to earn one of the four team qualifying spots at the regional qualifier.Maize finished with a team score of 322 to easily outdistance the Buffs’ score of 369, which in turn was well ahead of third-place Wichita Southeast’s 396.

GCHS girls’ golf have top 10 finishes in two-day road trip

The Garden City High School girls’ golf team made their two-day trip to central Kansas this week, playing on Wednesday at the Wichita North Invite then on Thursday traveling up the road for the Hutchinson Invite.WICHITA NORTHFreshman Brooke Savolt recorded her lowest individual score of her first season playing high school golf and that led the Garden City High School girls’ team to its lowest mark of the fall campaign on Wednesday at the Wichita North Invitational.Savolt shot a 12-over-par 83 as the Buffs’ 358 team score (four counting scores) was fifth behind a group of powerhouse teams.
