WOODWARD, Okla. - At halftime of Friday night’s interstate high school basketball game, the Garden City High School boys were close on the heels of a Woodward, Okla., team that had won 10 consecutive games.

WOODWARD, Okla. - The Garden City High School girls’ basketball team had hoped to use the momentum of a big win on Tuesday over rival Dodge City to carry them to a second straight victory on Friday when it traveled to Woodward, Okla.

LIBERAL - Prior to the start of the 2025 high school bowling season, Garden City Head Coach Kip Nichols knew his boys’ team would be heavily favored to capture its sixth consecutive Western Athletic Conference title.

MAIZE - It was the final preparation and tune-up for the Garden City Buffaloes’ boys’ swimming team, and despite not scoring any top five finishes, the Maize South Invitational on Friday (Feb. 7) proved to be a good one for the GCHS squad.

The final decision on who the better team is will likely be determined at the end of February and the first day of March when the Class 6A state girls’ wrestling tournament concludes at AdventHealth Sports Park in Overland Park.

It really wasn’t a question of whether or not the Garden City Buffaloes’ boys’ wrestling team would win the final Western Athletic Conference dual match of the season against rival Dodge City.

There hasn’t been many times in the 50-year history of girls’ basketball between Garden City and rival Dodge City where the final result turned into a monumental blowout.

The Garden City High School boys’ basketball team has certainly seen its share of roller-coaster performances during the 2024-25 season.
