
GCHS softball survives doubleheader scare at Liberal

Garden City High School science teacher Mark Shera Cruz was recognized on Saturday, April 12, at the Region 1 Kansas Teacher of the Year award ceremony in Salina.

The Garden City High School Drama Department has received word that it has been honored with five Jester Award nominations for their production of “The Unsinkable Molly Brown”. Additionally, another 11 regional honors were given to the school for the play.

While it would look like a runaway score in Tuesday’s 12-2 Garden City High School’s softball victory over Liberal at John Ford Field/Tangeman Sports Complex, the Buffs’ head coach Trina Mai, was still taking the high-road approach.

Before the week of April 21 got under way, Garden City High School girls’ soccer coach Jose Vital knew he would have to play more of his roster than usual.

HAYS - Garden City High School’s Maddix Shook “shook” off a roller-coaster front nine holes and came home on the back nine Monday at the Hays Invitational to shoot an even-par 71 and capture medalist honors by two shots.

LAWRENCE - With some nagging injuries and illness, along with chilly weather conditions, the Garden City High School’s limited entries at the Kansas Relays in Lawrence struggled with their respective performances.

DODGE CITY - After winning two emotionally draining one-run decisions on Thursday and Friday that sandwiched a run-rule victory over Wichita-Northwest (also Thursday), the Garden City High School softball team hit the empty level of their gas tank in Friday’s final against unbeaten Maize South at the Dodge City Softball Classic.

JUNCTION CITY - For the first half of the 2025 spring baseball season, Garden City High School’s Buffaloes have had their up-and-down moments, much like a roller-coaster.
