OVERLAND PARK – The Garden City High School girls’ wrestling team captured its first state championship with an impressive performance on Saturday at AdventHealth Sports Park at Bluhawk in Overland Park while their male counterparts finished second to Manhattan in Class 6A.
The high school basketball season is drawing to a close with this being sub-state week. Smaller classifications began their tournaments last week continuing into this week.
The Garden City Community College baseball team hosted Amarillo College Friday and Saturday at Williams Stadium. The Broncbusters salvaged the final game of the four-game series on Saturday.

DODGE CITY - Yina Ballesta Vargas struck out seven, Mara Vonk and Maysen Kurene-Iwikau each went yard, and Garden City improved to 9-4 with a 4-1 victory over Dodge City in their conference opener Friday afternoon at Legends Park in Dodge City.
