GCHS boys’ soccer ends in 1-1 tie with Liberal
The Garden City Buffaloes boys’ soccer team had finally returned home to its own stadium for the opening match of the 2024 Western Athletic Conference schedule against a highly-regarded Liberal Redskin squad.Thursday night’s matchup provided the Buffs with an opportunity to earn just their second win of the season after a brutal six-game, two Classic road trips to Wichita and Overland Park to open the season.But as is usually the case when the Buffs and Redskins meet, it was tense, tight and hard-fought battle that went 100 minutes before ending in a 1-1 tie at Buffalo Stadium.The tie left the Buffs with a 1-5-1 overall record and 0-0-1 in the WAC while Liberal, which had lost earlier in the week to Dodge City, 1-0, goes home with a 5-1-1 overall mark and 0-1-1 in the WAC.“A classic match, which seems like normal for us in the WAC,” GCHS Head Coach Jose Vital said.
