GCHS football routs Wichita Southeast, 48-0

It had been a rough four weeks for the Garden City High School football team.They had barely beaten a winless Wichita Heights team on the road, 14-13, then lost to Western Athletic Conference foes Hays and Liberal to see their season record dip to 1-4.On Friday night, though, for the 2024 Homecoming match-up against another winless Wichita team – Southeast – the Buffaloes found the right elixir to cure their ills in a 48-0 romp over the Golden Buffaloes.It was a night for the home ‘herd’ to run wild – and they did and it didn’t take long for them to get out of the pen.On the first scrimmage play of the game after the Buffs took the opening kickoff, sophomore Ryder Carr zipped around right end, cut back once and outraced the other buffaloes to the end zone on a 64-yard scamper.

Buffalo volleyball goes 2-3 at McPherson

MCPHERSON - After winning their first two matches on Saturday at the McPherson Invitational, the Garden City High School volleyball squad was unable to finish off the five-match marathon, falling in their final three matches.The 2-3 mark left the Buffs with a 17-12 season record and they will return home for a big week to cap off the regular season.

Buffaloes slip by Great Bend, 2-1, in WAC action

GREAT BEND - There has not been much breathing room on either side of the scoreboard for the Garden City High School boys’ soccer team during the 2024 season.With Thursday night’s 2-1 squeaker on the road against Great Bend’s Panthers, this time producing a victory for the tough-luck Buffs, it improved their season record to 4-8-1 overall and 3-3-1 in the Western Athletic Conference.In the 13 matches to date, only a 2-0 road loss two days earlier in Liberal had produced more than a one-goal difference in the outcome.
