The Garden City Community College men’s basketball team picked up a road win at Concordia over Cloud County on Thursday, but then fell to Cowley County at home on Saturday.
The Garden City Community College women’s basketball team came up empty in the win column last week as they dropped a contest at Concordia against Cloud County on Thursday, then turnovers proved costly on Saturday at home in a loss to Cowley County.
With the extreme cold temperatures moving into southwest Kansas early Tuesday morning, several area high school basketball teams moved their games scheduled for Tuesday to Monday to try and beat the cold.
Less than 24 hours after rolling over Western Athletic Conference for Great Bend, the Garden City High School girls’ basketball found itself back on the floor at The Garden in a non-conference contest against Class 3A Lakin on Saturday.
In a season that has been challenging in many ways, the Garden City Buffaloes’ boys’ basketball team faced perhaps their most challenging week on Friday and Saturday when tasked with facing Class 5A No. 4 Great Bend and then less than 24 hours hosting Class 3A No. 4 Lakin.
Don’t look now, but Garden City is gaining some steam.
In their first meeting back in December, the Garden City Community College women had a chance to knock off the defending national champions on their home floor. But Sierra Driessen fouled Hailey Jackson shooting a three in the waning seconds, and Hutchinson escaped with a one-point victory.
