Wheatland awards funds

SCOTT CITY - Wheatland Electric Cooperative Inc.’s Giving Goodness Charity Challenge winner is Baby Bronc Beginnings, a daycare provider in Lakin that serves employees of USD 215.
The daycare, which is the winner of a $1,000 Sharing Success grant, was championed by Wheatland Electric’s membership and Facebook fans and followers through multiple rounds of voting during the contest held entirely on social media from Oct. 26 through Nov. 13.
In addition, three other Giving Goodness finalists received Sharing Success grants. They include Russell Child Development Center in Garden City, which received a $500 grant; and Syracuse Christian Academy, Syracuse, and Magic’s H.O.P.E, Finney County, which received $250 each.
To engage the company’s membership and promote at least two of our cooperative principles, democratic member control and concern for community, the decision-making power was turned over to our membership in this grant selection process. Throughout the contest, the co-op members and followers were encouraged to nominate and vote for a deserving non-profit or charitable organization within our service territory and rally friends and family to do the same.
