Museum ribs sale deadline approaching
The Finney County Historical Society’s annual pre-Labor Day spare rib sale is under way as a fund-raising endeavor to support exhibits, educational programs, research efforts and artifact preservation at the Finney County Museum.
While a number of FCHS activities have been called off or curtailed due to COVID-19 precautions, organizers have been able to adjust procedures and continue the sale.
Orders may be placed through Aug. 25, with pick-up for customers from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Sept. 3 at the museum, 403 S. Fourth Street in Garden City’s Finnup Park. Prepared by Webb’s Food Crew and Barbecue of Deerfield, orders will be hot, ready and fully cooked.
The sale is sponsored by The Garden City Telegram and includes:
- Racks of pork spare ribs, $28 each
- Tri tip beef roasts, $36 each
Prices are unchanged from 2018 and 2019. Each rack of pork spare ribs weighs approximately three pounds and the tri tip roasts are approximately four pounds each, though there may be some natural variability.
“We always like to call this an opportunity that’s historically delicious, and it’s a great way to feed your friends and family for Labor Day weekend,” said Ray Heinemann, president of the FCHS Board of Directors.
“We’re proud to work with Webb’s on this, since everyone knows about the flavor and quality of everything they produce,” said Steve Quakenbush, FCHS executive director. “We’re also glad this is a fund-raiser we can still conduct this year, and we’re gratified to have the Telegram as our sponsor.”
Payment by cash or check is necessary in advance, and orders may be placed with any member of the FCHS Board of Directors. Orders may also be placed in person at the museum, where office hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, via the north entrance; or at the exhibit reception desk 1-5 p.m. seven days weekly. Organizers said orders are limited to capacity and subject to sell-out, so it’s important to place them early. Information is available at 620-272-3664.
The sale, which relies entirely on volunteer assistance, is one of several events conducted each year to help fund exhibits and historical society programs for the people of Finney County.
