Area basketball round up

Area basketball teams were back on the court Tuesday as the regular season begins to wind down.


Syracuse boys 69, Wallace County 18


Austin Plunkett led all scorers with 18 points and Luke Finlay added 12 as the Syracuse Bulldogs defeated Wallace County 69-18 Tuesday at Syracuse.


Syracuse led throughout the game, but only be three points after the first, 15-12. The Bulldogs defense to control of the rest of the game, only allowing six points over the next three quarters.


In the second, Syracuse scored 21 points while holding its opponent to a single basket. In the fourth, SHS held Wallace County scoreless.


The Bulldogs had 10 players score during the game.

Syracuse girls 43, Wallace County 30


Margo Stum scored 11 points to lead Syracuse to a 43-30 victory over Wallace County Tuesday at Syracuse.


The Bulldogs were trailing after the first quarter, 10-9, but bounced back to take a 22-16 lead in to halftime. In the second half, Syracuse extended its lead with a 14-9 third quarter, then cruised to the win through the fourth.

Lakin girls 50, Elkhart 39


Jaya Esquibel scored 17 points and Talyn Beltran added 10 Tuesday as Lakin defeated Elkhart 50-39 at Lakin.


The Broncs racked up 21 points in the first quarter, its most productive quarter of the game, while holding the Wildcats to nine points. Lakin led 33-16 at the half, but Elkhart mounted a comeback in the third, outscoring the Broncs 17-7 to pull within seven going into the fourth. The Broncs’ first half helped them hold onto the lead and get the win.


Jenni Forbes led the scoring for the Wildcats with 13, and Chevelle Ralstin added 10.

Meade boys 51, South Gray 62


Aaron Skidmore had 20 points to lead all scorers, Brady Deges had 14 and Ethan Salmans added 11 points as the South Gray Rebels defeated Meade 62-51 on Tuesday at Montezuma.


In the first half, the teams battle back and forth, with South Gray taking a 30-26 lead in to the locker room. A strong third quarter by the Rebels, 17-9, extended the lead and eventually the win.


Vance Shewey had 17 points for the Buffaloes and Andrew Martin added 16.

Southwestern Heights 55, Kiowa County boys 56


Cooper Zenger led all scorers with 26 points and Brandon Boytes added 17 as Kiowa County grabbed a 56-55 win over Southwestern Heights on Tuesday at Greensburg.


The first quarter proved to be the difference in the game, as Kiowa County jumped out to a 20-14 lead. Southwestern Heights outscored Kiowa County in the remaining three quarters, but came up just short in the end.


Sergio Chavez led the scoring for the Mustangs with 14 and Bryant Olivera added 13 points.

Holcomb girls 43, Hugoton 66


Mike Hamlin scored a game-high 20 points, Gianna Vos had 12 and McKenna Hamlin added 11 points as Hugoton defeated Holcomb 66-43 on Tuesday at Hugoton.


The Eagles led throughout the game, 36-27 at halftime, and held the Longhorns to eight points in each of the second-half quarters while scoring 30 points.


Made Ruda led the scoring for Holcomb with 13 points.
