Garden City High School’s baseball team will head to Lawrence on Thursday for the Class 6A regional tournament hosted by Lawrence High.
The Buffaloes (11-9) enter the four-team region as the 11th overall seed in the West, and will face six-seed Topeka Washburn Rural (11-5) at 2 p.m. Thursday. On the other side of the regional bracket is third-seeded Lawrence (14-5) and 14th-seeded Wichita North (7-11).
The regional final will be played immediately following the conclusion of the Lawrence-Wichita North semifinal game.
The winner of the final advances to the Class 6A state tournament at Hoglund Stadium in Lawrence on May 23 and 24.
The Ulysses Tigers will play Clay Center/Wakefield at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the Tigers’ regional opener in Andale. The Tigers (8-9) are the 12th seed and Clay Center the fifth.
On the other side of the bracket, Andale/Garden Plain takes on Mulvane.
The winner of the regional advances to the Class 4A state tournament at Dean Evans Stadium in Salina on May 23-24.
Scott City plays host to an eight-team regional beginning Monday. The Beavers (13-7) enter as the No. 2 seed and will play seventh-seed Goodland (3-15) at 3:30 p.m. Monday in one quarterfinal.
Cimarron (11-5) is the top seed and plays No. 8 Southwestern Heights (0-18) at 3:30 p.m. Monday, as well. In the two other quarterfinals, fourth-seed Colby (9-8) plays fifth-seed Lakin/Deerfield (9-11) and third-seed Hugoton (11-8) takes on six-seed Holcomb (4-16), with both games at 2 p.m.
Both semifinal games will be played at 5 p.m., with the final set for 6 p.m. Wednesday in Scott City.
Sublette, Syracuse, Wichita County and the Sublette/Moscow co-op all will compete in the Spearville regional in Class 2-1A beginning Monday in Spearville and Dodge City. Wichita County (0-18) enters as the eighth seed and takes on top-seeded Elkhart (16-0) at 3 p.m. in Spearville. Satanta/Moscow (10-7) plays Bucklin/Coldwater at 4:30 p.m. in Spearville.
Then, in Dodge City on Monday, Spearville (13-3) plays Syracuse (4-14) at 3 p.m. and Sublette (11-7) plays Minneola (4-10) at 4:30 p.m.
The semifinals are set for 2 and 3:30 p.m. in Spearville on Wednesday, with the regional final to follow that evening.
