The Garden City Community College golf team is national championship bound.
The Broncbusters finished fifth of nine teams at the NJCAA District III Championship at Wild Horse Golf Club on Monday in Gothenburg, Neb., posting a 591 team score (299-292).
It was the final spot to earn a berth into the NJCAA Division I golf championship at Duran Golf Club in Melbourne, Fla., on May 14 to 17.
Indian Hills (Iowa) took the team title with a 570. Hutchinson took second (573), followed by Iowa Western (582), Dodge City (586) and Garden City, which edged Barton (603) for the final qualifying spot.
The Busters were led by George Avgousti, who finished tied for third at 2-under (70-72). Hutchinson’s Charlie Crocket won the individual title at 5-under (69-70) and Blue Dragon teammate Peyton Austin took second at 3-under (70-71).
Shaydon Johnson had the next best day for the Busters, finishing tied for 10th at 1-over (73-72), followed by Vincent Wilhelm (tied for 21st, 5-over) and Jake Bay and Evan McBride, who tied with each other for 33rd at 12-over.
