For the battle of WAC supremacy, the Garden City Buffaloes and Hays Indians have reached a stalemate for the second time this season, as neither team was able to score in regulation or overtime, drawing 0-0 Monday night in Hays.
The two teams previously finished in a 1-1 draw earlier this season in Garden City.
The usual potent Garden City (8-1-4/5-0-2) offense, while outshooting Hays 7-2, was unable to find the back of the net, which is only the third time this season the Buffaloes have been shut out. One of those scoreless games came in the Buffaloes' only other scoreless draw, when they tied the Guymon, Okla., Tigers earlier this season.
The defense, however, played to its usually high level, earning its second-consecutive clean sheet and seventh of the season. Since allowing the Goddard-Eisenhower Tigers to score four goals in the third game of the season, the Buffalo defense has only allowed five goals in 10 games.
With one conference game left for both Hays and Garden City, the Buffaloes hold a slim lead in the WAC standings. Garden City has a 5-0-2 conference record, while Hays has posted a 4-0-3 conference mark.
