Garden City High School’s tennis team went a combined 16-0 in Monday’s WAC Tournament in Liberal.

With the usual lineup back in action for the Buffaloes, it was a dominant Garden City sweep. Huy Nguyen won the No. 1 singles, Aaron Schafer No. 2 singles, Will Keller and Daniel Darter won No. 1 doubles and the brother duo of Nathan and Tyler Morren won No. 2 doubles.

Keller was named WAC player of the year, and head coach Rod Robinson coach of the year.

The Buffs now prepare for the Class 6A regionals, which will be hosted by Garden City but may be moved from its original schedule of Friday due to forecasted rain.

Senior Sion Audrain racked up another tournament win, claiming the top spot at the Great Bend Invitational with a score of 71.

As a team, the Garden City Buffaloes finished second in the team standings, scoring a 318 and falling just short of year-long rival Hays, which posted a 316.

All of the Buffs’ five counting scores joined Audrain in the top 10. Sophomore Cayden Cundiff led the way, finishing with an 81, followed by junior Noah Ortiz, freshman Theo Juhl and junior Reid Richmeier, who all posted an 83.

Mason Shaddix posted a non-counting score of 84.

The Buffs will see Hays once more in WAC play at the Liberal Invitational on May 7.
