DODGE CITY — The Garden City Buffaloes girls basketball team outscored the Dodge City Red Demons 14-7 in the third quarter, and beat the Red Demons 46-40 Tuesday night in Dodge City.

The win avenges a 46-39 loss to the Demons at The Garden on Jan. 29, and improves the Buffs to 11-7 overall and 3-3 in the WAC. Dodge City dropped to 7-10 and 2-3.

The Buffs held a 17-14 advantage at half, and the two teams exchanged buckets until it was 23-21 with 2:20 to go in the period.

To close out the quarter, though, the Buffs went on an 8-0 to take a commanding 31-21 advantage into the fourth quarter.

Dodge City got to within 36-34, 38-36 and 40-38 in the final minutes, but the Buffs made all six of their final six free throws to seal the win.

The Buffs were outrebounded throughout the first half, but held around by turning the ball over fewer times, only committing four turnovers through the first two quarters, compared to 10 by the Red Demons.

GCHS junior Felicity Rodriguez recorded a game-high 12 points, and Keyhana Turner added a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Junior Nateara Beasley also had 10 points.

For Dodge City, freshman Camree Johnson had a team-high 11 points, but she was the only Red Demon in double figures.

As a team, the Buffaloes held the Red Demons to just 37.8 shooting, but made just 36.4 percent of their own shots. The difference was at the free-throw line, where the Buffs went 20 of 27 and the Demons 6 of 11.

Overall, each team had 14 turnovers. Dodge City ended up outrebounding Garden City 33-25 throughout the game, but Garden City had both of the game’s made 3-pointers, hitting 2 of 9 from long range. Dodge City went 0 of 9 from 3-point territory.
