For the second-straight weekend, the Garden City Buffaloes wrestling team was dominant, this time going 5-0 in duals Saturday in the Ridge Rage Duals in Palmer, Colo.

Of the 13 wrestlers making the trip west for the Kansas Class 6A No. 2-ranked Buffaloes, seven of them posted perfect 5-0 records, although a few were the beneficiaries of forfeit wins against schools who couldn’t field full teams.

Garden City cruised to wins over their Colorado competition by scores of 46-30 over Adams City, 72-10 over Monte Vista, 69-12 over Mountain Vista, 60-21 over The Classical Academy and 53-27 over Vista Ridge.

Silas Pineda (120), Diago Hernandez (126), Jacob Holt (132), Jared Arellano (152), Alexavier Rodriguez (195), Tyler May (220) and Julian Facio (285) all went 5-0 on the day to lead the Buffaloes.

Pineda was the only Buffalo who had to earn all five of his wins on the mat, winning four by pin and one by major decision.

Hernandez posted four wins on the mat and picked up one forfeit win. Holt won two matches by pin, one by technical fall and two by forfeit. Arellano and Rodriguez each won three by fall and two by forfeit.

Garden City’s two heaviest wrestlers didn’t face much competition as May and Facio each won four of their five matches by forfeit.

Alex Herrera (113), Jacob Sims (170) and Cole Thompson (182) each went 4-1 on the day.

The day before the dual meet in Palmer, the Buffaloes posted a 49-18 dual victory over Coronado, Colo., winning nine of 13 matches.

The Buffaloes have a bit of a break now until hitting the road again Dec. 21 and 22 at the always tough KC Stampede tournament in Kansas City, Mo., where nearly 40 teams from several states will converge.
