Hugoton 69, Perryton, Texas 65

Damian Lewis hit 10 3-pointers and scored 39 points to lead the Hugoton Eagles to a 69-65 win over Perryton, Texas, in the final of the Blue and Red Classic in Hugoton.

The win avenged an earlier loss Hugoton (2-1) had to Perryton (2-1) in the first round of the tournament.

The Eagles trailed 52-49 entering the fourth quarter, before outscoring Perryton 20-13 to seal the win.

Carlos Montiel added 14 points for Hugoton, while Perryton was led by Griffin Brosowske’s 19 points.

In other action in the boys tournament, Guymon, Okla., downed Rolla, 64-26 in the fourth-place game, and Ulysses beat Southwestern Heights, 62-52, in the third-place game.

Girls

Ulysses 62, Hugoton 35

Gina Ballesteros had 19 points and Madison Haney 13 to lead the Ulysses Tigers to a 62-35 win over Hugoton in the Blue and Red Classic girls championship.

The Tigers led 21-3 after the first quarter and 29-10 at halftime, cruising to the title and improving to 3-0 this season. Hugoton suffered its first loss and fell to 2-1.

Luz Gomez added nine points for the Tigers, while Jordyn Beard and Rebecca Johnson each had 10 for Hugoton.

In other girls’ action in the tournament, Rolla downed Hugoton’s JV team, 36-28, in the seventh-place game; Stratford, Texas, beat Guymon, Okla., 61-51, in the fifth-place game; and Perryton, Texas, blew out Southwestern Heights, 69-18, in the third-place game.

Yuma, Colo. 68, Lakin 57

After trailing 36-15 at the half, Lakin mounted a furious third-quarter rally to get within 44-37 entering the fourth quarter, but could not finish the comeback, losing 68-57 to Yuma, Colo., in the final of the Topside Tournament in Goodland.

Henry Chou led the Broncs with 18 points, and Dominick Daniels had 10. Yuma was led by Jake Chrisman’s 22 points.
