Garden City native and professional boxer Victor Ortiz will return to the ring on Sept. 30.
Ortiz, 31, who has a 32-6-3 record, will fight John Molina Jr., another American fighter, at Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, Calif.
Ortiz is a former world champion welterweight while Molina, 35, has been a highly regarded contender in previous years.
The match will be part of an evening of boxing, scheduled to be televised on FS1.
Ortiz last fought on Feb. 17 against Devon Alexander at the Don Haskins Events Center in El Paso, Texas, where the bout ended in a draw.
The Garden City native held the World Boxing Council world welterweight title after beating Andre Berto in April of 2011. But he lost his belt in September of the same year in a controversial knockout by Floyd Mayweather Jr. at the end of the fourth round at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. At the time he was 29-2-2, but since has gone 3-4-1.
