The Garden City USD 457 Board of Education approved Trent Specht as the new Garden City High School boys' and girls' golf head coach for the 2018-19 season at its Monday meeting. Specht will start as both coach and math teacher at the school this fall.

Specht graduated from Southwestern Heights High School in Kismet and earned his associate's degree from Dodge City Community College and his bachelor's in secondary education with an emphasis in mathematics at Ashford University in 2013. He is currently attending Fort Hays State University for his master's in instructional technology.

The new coach golfed at both DCCC and AU and earned All American honors in golf from the College Sports Information Directors of America, or coSIDA. He taught math at Holcomb High School for four and a half years and has coached volleyball, girls' and boys' golf, boys basketball and middle school girls' basketball.

Correction: A previous version of this story incorrectly reported where Southwestern Heights High School is located. The school is in Kismet. Specht also will be the head coach for both the GCHS boys' and girls' golf teams.
