Wichita State drew a No. 4 seed in the East regional of the NCAA Tournament on Selection Sunday and will face No. 13 Marshall in a region that includes Villanova, Texas Tech and the Shockers' potential second-round foe, West Virginia.

Purdue drew the No. 2 seed and will face Cal State-Fullerton, while third-seeded Tech will face SF Austin and the No. 5 seed Mountaineers draw a tough 5-12 matchup with Murray State. Nova, the top seed in the region, will face the winner of a play-in between LIU-Brooklyn and Radford.

Another notable, Florida, drew the No. 6 seed and will face the winner of a First Four play-in between St. Bonaventure and UCLA.

The Shockers (25-7, 14-4 in conference play) will play Saturday at Viejas Arena in San Diego, Calif. Wichita State fell to Houston in the American Athletic Conference tournament semifinals. The Cougars, which were seeded No. 6 in the West regional, were dropped 56-55 in Sunday's AAC championship game against Cincinnati, the No. 2 seed in a South bracket that includes No. 1 overall seed Virginia, Kansas State, Arizona, Kentucky and Texas.

The Shockers, seeking their third Final Four appearance, play solid team basketball under coach Gregg Marshall, averaging the third-best assist total in the nation at 18.5 per game. They also are a top 10 rebounding team (40.5), compared to Marshall's 36.2 (127th in the nation). They are led by Landry Shamet with 15.0 points and 5.1 assists per game.

Marshall (24-10, 12-6 in conference play) finished fourth in the Conference USA regular season but won the conference tournament with a one-point victory against Western Kentucky. Under coach Dan D'Antoni, the Thundering Herd will be on the hunt for their first NCAA Tournament victory after a 31-year absence from the Big Dance. They have an 0-5 all-time record in the tournament, a far cry from the Shockers' 18-15 record in 14 appearances.

Guard Jon Elmore leads the Herd, which average the nation's 12th-best scoring average at 84.3, with 22.8 points and 6.9 assists per game. However, the Herd also allows 78.8 points per game, as well, a mark good for 321st in the country.
