Macie Price had 17 points and Emily Weathers had 12 to lead the Scott City girls to a 59-45 win over Wichita Collegiate in Friday night’s Clarion Inn Roundball Classic game in Scott City.

It continues the Beavers’ hot start to the season, with head coach Sarah McCormick’s squad starting the year at 3-0, after starting the Classic with a win over Palmer Ridge, Colo., Thursday night.

Scott City out-scored Collegiate in each of the four quarters, holding a lead of 15-13 at the end of the first quarter, 26-22 at half and 41-35 entering the final period.

Bailey Latta chipped in 10 points and Emily Smith had nine for the Beavers, as well. Collegiate was led by Maddie Reed’s 12 points — all on three-pointers — while Anna Coughlin had 10.

Scott City now heads 35 miles south to play the Garden City girls in the Garden at 4:15 p.m. Saturday.


The Scott City boys were not able to rebound from Thursday night’s loss, losing for the second time in as many days, falling on Friday night in Scott City to Wichita Collegiate, 59-45.

The Beavers drop to 0-2 in the Clarion Inn Roundball Classic, despite Hunter Yager’s 14 points and Marshall Faurot’s 13. Jordan Horn also had 11, but the Beavers got just four points from the remaining players.

Trailing 24-13 at halftime, the Beavers exploded for a 24-10 third quarter, entering the final period with a three-point lead. But Collegiate answered with a 17-point fourth quarter, with five different players scoring to lead the comeback win.

Riley Dick led with 20 points, and Cody McNerny had 11.

The Beavers drop to 1-2, while Collegiate improves to 2-0. Scott City has a matchup with Garden City in the tournament finale and Saturday nightcap at The Garden at GCHS. Tip-off is set for 7:45.
