One day after hosting the Pecos League Mountain Division All-Star Game, the Garden City Wind found themselves back in regular season action Wednesday at Clint Lightner Stadium.

And it wasn’t a welcome back to the regular season that the Wind was looking for.

With division-leading Alpine, Texas, in town, the Wind collided with the best team in the Mountain Division, the Cowboys.

The Wind offense disappeared, coming up with just four hits in a 7-0 shutout loss.

Alpine broke into the scoring column with two runs in the third, benefiting from a pair of passed balls and a two-run single.

The Cowboys added three more runs in the seventh, getting one unearned run and then got a two-run home run from Brandon Pugh.

Two additional runs came across in the ninth.

The Wind, meanwhile, managed just four hits off Chris Field, who walked just one and had six strikeouts.

The loss dropped the Wind to 17-29 overall, while the Cowboys improved to 28-15, staying just ahead of Trinidad by a game.

Wednesday’s contest was the first of a five-game home stand for the Wind against the Cowboys. Game 2 is set for Thursday, with the first pitch at 6:30 p.m., again at Lightner Stadium.
