MONTEZUMA – The Stauth Memorial Museum, located at 111 N. Aztec St. in Montezuma, will be hosting an exhibit titled “Sisters: The Art of Judy Scott and Amy Pilger” from July 18 through Aug. 17.
The exhibit will be held in the museum’s Special Exhibits Gallery.
The exhibit will feature 27 paintings and mixed media pieces by sisters, Judy Scott and Amy Pilger, as well as one piece created by both women.
Though growing up in the same household, both have different artistic styles. Scott uses a warm color pallet, where Pilger chooses cooler tones – but both credit their mother for teaching them to be creative. “My experience with creativity was a mother who could put together something wonderful from nothing,” Scott said.
“I had a mother who taught me a layer of contact paper can improve anything,” agrees Pilger.
Both women have maintained creative pursuits throughout their lives.
Scott was the art teacher at Ulysses High School from 1963 – 2003 and has become a “working” artist in her retirement. She holds a Master’s Degree in Ceramics from Fort Hays State and draws inspiration from the western Kansas landscape and the welcoming communities of Lakin and Ulysses where she has long been at home.
Pilger made her home in Colorado for many years and now lives in Green Valley, Ariz. Her inspirations come from everything around her, she says, “I see shape, lines, pattern, texture and color every place I look.”
The public is invited to an Artist’s Reception celebration from 1:30-4:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 20 at Stauth Memorial Museum. Scott will be on hand to welcome visitors and talk about her projects. Refreshments will be served.
Stauth Memorial Museum is open from 9 a.m. to noon and 1-4:30 p.m. on Tuesday through Saturday. Admission is always free, but donations are greatly appreciated. Please call (620)846-2527 to schedule a group tour, or email stauthm@ucom.net.
