Kenton Ward

Obituary

OVERLAND PARK - On Thursday, March 18, 2021, Kenton Ward, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at the age of 77. Kent was born on July 13, 1943 in Waldo to Kenneth and Agnes (Bear) Ward. He was one of six children and followed his beloved older sister, Beverly, into the service after high school. After being discharged from the Army in 1966, Kent went to college and earned his accounting degree from Fort Hays State University in 1972. He began work with Fox and Co. in Hays and worked his way up to partner. The firm eventually became known as Brungardt Hower Ward Elliott & Pfeifer. He ran the Garden City office of the firm from 1989-2003.

On June 14, 1969, he married Carol Lovelace. The two had an incredible bond that saw them through many joys and heartaches. They loved to travel and were able to take many trips across the United States and throughout Europe. While in Europe, Kent was able to revisit some of the places that he was stationed in the Army. He especially enjoyed the Autobahn as a young man.

They raised two children, Michelle and Shawn. He spent hours helping his children hone their athletic skills and attended nearly every match and game that they played in. He delighted in Shawn's marriage to Courtney and his grandchildren, Lucy and Spencer, who brought him incredible joy. They loved their Papa and he loved them.

Kent loved his family and enjoyed reading, puzzles, and cherry pie. He liked a good thriller and loved to tell you who had done it before the big reveal. He was a quiet man who tried to live a good, moral life.
