Diane J. Wolny, passed away peacefully into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at home on Jan. 18, 2021 with family at her side. Diane was born Sept. 8, 1946, in Brooklyn, NY.
She grew up in Levittown, Long Island where she graduated from Island Trees High School in 1964. She worked for many years at Springer Publishing Company in New York City until she moved to Garden City, KS, in the fall of 2002. She worked for more than a decade at the Garden City Public Library until retiring in the Spring of 2013. She also taught art classes multiple times at the Garden City Recreation Commission. Diane was a talented artist who exhibited her work in several juried shows. Diane was known for her quirky sense of humor, her eclectic style, her kind and compassionate spirit, and her dynamic energy. She was a lover of all kinds of music, a classic car officianado, an avid reader, a collector of books, and a passionate animal lover; especially of cats and dogs.
Diane was preceded in death by her parents, Walter J. Wolny and Mildred T. Wolny of Cherry Valley, NY. She is survived by her husband of 16 years Stephen Griffin; sons Christopher Michael (Robin) Fargnoli of Groveland, Fla, Alexander Joseph Fargnoli of Garden City, KS; sisters, Sue Wolny of Portalnd, Ore, and Gale Wolny (Wayne Graham) of Rosebloom, NY; grandchildren, Abby, Benjamin, Jonathan, Ileana, and Auresa; niece, Kathleen Hurney of Portalnd, Ore.; several cousins and many friends in Cherry Valley, NY and Garden City, KS.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Diane’s life will be held at the Garnand Funeral Home Chapel on Jan. 26, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. Memorial contributions are suggested to The Finney County Humane Society, Garden City Animal Shelter, or The American Cancer Association in memory of Diane.
