Raquel Lopez, 73, died on Jan. 19, 2021 at her home in Garden City, KS. She was born Jan. 11, 1948 in Garden City, KS, the daughter of Abraham and Antonia (Bonilla) Campos. Raquel was a lifelong Garden City resident. She first married Richard Leon. He preceded her in death. She later met Rito Lopez at a baseball game in Liberal and they married on Feb. 2, 1978.
She had worked at a cook for Kenneth Henderson Middle School for many years. She enjoyed garage sales, collecting pictures of family memories, and random road trips. Many times she and her husband would get in the car and drive to exotic places like Kearny Nebraska for a steak or Las Vegas to gamble. Her grandchildren will remember that she always urged them to be the best they could be at whatever goals they set for themselves. She cared deeply for her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Rito Lopez; children, Lorena Lopez, Eric (Dora) Leon, and Richard (Barbara ) Leon; grandchildren, Christina, Josh, Zach, Jessica, Avery, Laila, Marcus, Valentin, and Izrael; great-grandchildren, Alexa, Amari and Espn; siblings, Jesse Ledesma and Neva Gallardo and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Ezequiel Ledesma, Amelia Lopez, Sophia Garcia, Columba Ramirez, Gloria Hernandez, Ruth Campos and Mary Medina.
A Rosary will be held at 2 p.m. with a Memorial Service at 2:30 p.m. following on Jan. 22, 201 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Garden City, KS. Burial will take place at a later date. There will not be any calling hours. The family suggests memorials to the Raquel Lopez Memorial Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 412 N Seventh Street, Garden City, Ks. 67846.
