Maria Elena Ramirez, age 90, died Dec. 5, 2020 in the comfort of her home in Garden City, KS. She was born Sept. 11, 1930 in Marlin, Texas, the daughter of the late Daniel and Josephine Willars. She was united in marriage to Manuel Ramirez on Dec. 11, 1951 in Plainview, Texas. She loved her children equally but devoted her life to the loving care of her disabled son, whom she nurtured selflessly, even in her advanced age. She felt God had given her the special privilege of being his mother. Her many talents included beautiful works of embroidery and quilting and making sure her family was well fed with one of her delicious meals.
She is survived by her children, Anna (Pete) Gallardo of Warrenville, SC, Teresa (Efraim) Picazo of Garden City, KS, Irene (Tim) Rome of Garden City, KS, Lutilda Guebara of Amarillo, Texas, and Esiquio Ramirez. of Garden City, KS; siblings, Francis Martin and Olivia Cunningham; 12 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Manuel Ramirez; son, Raul Manuel Ramirez; siblings, Russell Willis; Marie Montiel; and Tony Willars; parents; grandson, Thomas Gallardo and great grandson, AJ Rascon.
Rosary will be held at 9:30 a..m before the Funeral Mass on Thursday Dec. 10. A Mass of The Resurrection will be held at 10 a.m. on Dec. 10, 2020 at St Mary Catholic and broadcast live via the Garnand Funeral Home Facebook Page. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery. Friends may call 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday Dec. 9, 2020 at Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City, KS. Memorials are suggested to St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
