Satanta - Patsy Edd (Scarbrough) Lightcap, 88, went to Heaven on Sunday, November 29, 2020 after a short battle with Covid-19 at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City. Pat, as she was known by her family and friends, was born on November 3, 1932 to Thomas and Jessie Scarbrough in Poteau, Oklahoma, while the family was visiting relatives there. She spent her formative years in Sanford, Texas and while she might have been born an Okie, she was a proud and stubborn Texan at heart. She is a graduate of Phillips High School.
Pat married the love of her life, Mr. Gerald Lightcap, in Satanta on April 10, 1960. The made their home on the farm northwest of town for 52 years. In 2012, they moved to Garden City and in April of this year, they celebrated a monumental 60 years together.
At the age of 46, in the midst of her important work as a mother and farm wife, Pat went back to school and completed her nursing degree becoming a 1980 graduate of Garden City Community College. She began working at Dr. Fry’s office that year and enjoyed serving the clients and clinic for 34 years. Having the letters, RN, behind her name was a great source of pride.
She and Gerald were avid K-State fans and took many trips with their kids and grandkids to see the Cats play football and basketball. She was never too shy to sport her stylish and coordinated purple outfits. She enjoyed dancing and would drag Gerald along for many nights at the dance hall. Her favorite jig was a square dance, but she was an elegant ballroom dancer as well. She took great joy in her children and grandchildren and was ofter their biggest fan in the stands as she and Gerald traveled many miles to attend their activities.
Pat was member of the Satanta United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Satanta Yo Club, and the Satanta Coffee Club.
Pat is survived by her dear husband, Gerald; son, Ken and wife Velda Lightcap; daughters, Stacey Barnhardt and husband Roger and Trudy Mahin and husband Greg; sister, Sharon Greenway; brother, Tim Scarbrough; 10 grandchildren, Heather Bowman, Kelsey Lightcap, Jessica Roberts, Nathan Brauer, Dakota Sepeda, Tristen Sepeda, Ryan Barnhardt, Sheldon Barnhardt, Braden Barnhardt, and Jacey Mahin, along with 12 great grandchildren who lovingly remember her as Grape. Family and friends are invited to watch the live stream via Swaim Funeral Chapel's Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/swaimfuneralchapel/. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Sublette on Tuesday, December 8, 2020 from noon to 8:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to the Publishers Clearing House, maybe you’ll get lucky. Pat never did! But seriously, memorials are suggested to the Satanta United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.
