SATANTA - Johnnie Trevor (JT) Coates, age 18, died Nov. 26, 2020 in rural Haskell County, KS, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born on Sept. 7, 2002 in Garden City, KS, the son of Kenyon Coates and Michelle Hammer. JT spent his early childhood in Satanta and later in Holcomb, attending schools in both towns. He loved to be on the farm. JT was currently working as a custom harvester for JDK Harvesting out of Colby, KS.
JT is survived by his mother, Michelle Hammer and husband John Whitehead of Satanta; his father, Kenyon Coates and wife Shellie Becker of Holcomb; siblings, Katie Koch (Peter Jones) of Wichita, KS, Colton Koch (Kristen) of Mankato, KS, Nicole Coates of Manhattan, KS, Chris Whitehead (Megan) of Kansas City, MO, Codey Whitehead (Paige) of Joplin, MO, and Isaiah Whitehead of Joplin, MO; grandparents, Chris and Ruth Hammer of Sublette, KS; many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews; and too many friends to count. He is preceded in death by grandparents, Betty Mast and Leonard Coates; great grandparents, Fred and Marge Wachs, Robert and Betty Hammer, Johnny and Lucille Hallmark, and Nellie Coates.
Funeral service will be held at Pleasant Prairie Church of God at the intersection of Road 50 and EE in rural Haskell County, KS, on Dec. 3, 2020 at 2 p.m. Cremation will follow the service. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Sublette, KS, on Dec. 2, 2020 from noon to 8 p.m. The family requests those attending the visitation or service to please wear a face mask.
