JOHNSON CITY - Margie Puyear, age 85, died on Oct. 20, 2020, in Lakin, KS. She was born Feb. 11, 1935, in Holly, CO, to Perry and Katherine Barnes. The family moved west of Ulysses, KS., when she was very young. Margie met Loren Puyear on a blind double-date. They later married in Raton, NM, on Dec. 22, 1951. Margie returned to Ulysses and graduated from Grant County Rural High School in 1952. She then joined Loren in Denver at the Air Force Base at the young age of 17. Loren and Margie moved to Johnson City, KS, to farm.
Survivors include, Jim Puyear of Hooker, OK, Kenneth Puyear of Johnson City, KS, Lisa Welch of Bartlesville, OK; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Bill and Jo Barnes of Lawrence, KS, Homer and Carlotta Barnes of Ulysses, KS and Donnie Mace of Cheney, KS and beloved Parrot, Zulu of Ulysses, KS. She was preceded in death by her sister, Ava Mace.
Graveside service will be held on Oct. 24, 2020, at 1 p.m. at the Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson City, KS. As per Margie’s wishes, she was cremated.
