Norman George “Butch” Carr, Jr., 71, died April 7, 2020 at The Ranch House in Garden City. He was born September 28, 1948 in Garden City, the son of Norman George Carr, Sr. and Edith L. (Stinemetz) Carr.
Norman has been a lifetime resident of Garden City. He graduated from Garden City High School in 1967. He then served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. On June 2, 1968, he married Theda Paxson in Garden City. Norman later married Juanita (Motley) Irwin in Garden City on October 12, 1991. Norman worked for more than 40 years for the Kansas Department of Transportation. He retired in 2010. He was a member of Bible Christian Church in Garden City and enjoyed race cars, NASCAR, and as a sports fan he loved to watch his grandkids play ball.
Survivors include his wife Juanita Carr of the home; seven children Martina Rash and husband Kevin of Emporia, KS, Norman Carr III and wife Gera of Garden City, Joe Carr and wife Theresa of Garden City, Dustin Carr and wife Megan of Garden City, Bridget Carr of Garden City, Thomas Irwin of Garden City, and Robert Irwin of Eloy, AR; his mother Edith Carr of Garden City; three brothers Randy Carr of Garden City, Monte Carr and wife Kris of Lakin, KS, and Bruce Carr and wife Nancy of Garden City; 24 grandchildren; and three great-granddaughters. Norman is preceded in death by his father and two grandsons.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on August 3, 2020 at Valley View Cemetery In Garden City. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the United States Navy Honor Guard and the American Legion District #9 Honor Guard. There will be no calling hours.
