Garden City - Evalyn Margaret Branson, 94, passed away quietly on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. She was living at the Ranch House Nursing Home. Evalyn was born on July 21, 1926 in Pueblo, Colorado to Denzel E. & Juanita (Eady) Babb. Evalyn was raised by her Uncle and Aunt Emil M. & Vaughan (Eady) Gagliardi in the Trinidad, Colorado area. She married Walter "Lee" Degurse, Sr. on May 15, 1942 in Raton, New Mexico. Two children were born to them: Walter Lee Degurse, Jr. (Nancy) and Donna Jean Degurse Hageman (Gerald). Her Grandchildren John D. Hurley (Rudie), Marc L. Hurley (Karen), Justin R. Hurley (Amanda), Elizabeth A. Ford, Jennifer K. Degurse, and Kelley Jones. She also had 25 Great-Grandchildren and 22 Great Great-Grandchildren.

Evalyn and Lee moved to Rocky Ford, Colorado and then to Las Animas, Colorado where, for many years worked as a homemaker and assisted Lee in the service station business.

She later married William C. Branson on November 28, 1963 in LaJunta, Colorado where they lived in Las Animas. They moved to Trinidad, Colorado with a family of 4 step-children. She was a secretary in the Trinidad school district and retired in 1989. In 2009 she moved to Garden City, Kansas to live with her daughter and Son-in-law.

She loved to play bridge at the Finney County Senior Center just as she had enjoyed in Trinidad for many years and was known to be a very good player. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Las Animas and a dedicated worker at the church where she was known for making the best cinnamon rolls and desserts for church dinners and fund raisers. She was also remembered for her tasty Christmas candy.

In addition to her Children and Grandchildren, she is also survived by a sister Clara Mae Babb Nally of Oceanside, California and her 2 children. Evalyn is preceded in death by both of her husbands; her parents; and her Aunt and Uncle.

Cremation has taken place and a private family service is planned for a later date. The family suggests memorials given to Alzheimer's Research in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City, Kansas. Condolences may be given at garnandfuneralhomes.com.
