Darrel D. Combs
Darrel D. “Coyote” Combs, 77, died on Friday, May 22, 2020 at St Catherine Hospital in Garden City. He was born on October 26, 1942 at Garden City, the son of M. R. & Mamie (Cone) Combs. He married Sandra Miller on January 22, 1961 at Deerfield. She died on December 25, 1984.
Darrel graduated from Deerfield High School and moved to Garden City. He started his working career at Masonry Products and Pepsi Bottling Company before going to work at Gibson’s and eventually became the Sporting Goods Manager. In 1970 he became the owner and operator of Coyote’s Shooter Supply. He was a member of the Deerfield United Methodist Church, Lifetime member and founding member of Sand and Sage Rifle And Pistol Club, Lifetime member of NRA and had received his 50 year pin from the Eagles Lodge. He also belonged to the Finney County Historical Society, Kearny County Historical Society and was active in the Finney County Senior Center. He enjoyed shooting sports, welding, woodworking, arrowhead and rock hunting and his coin collection.
He is survived by his daughter- Bonnie & Bernard Ashlock of Garden City; son- David & Cathy Combs of Olathe; companion- Janice Coleman of Garden City; brother- Loran & Anne Combs of Deerfield; Sister-In-Law- Beverly Combs of Deerfield and two grandchildren- Cassandra Ashlock of Garden City and Christian Ashlock of Lone Tree, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three brothers- Milford Combs, Leland Combs & Larry Combs and two sisters- Phyllis Combs and Clara Wynne Grauberger.
Private services will be held at this time with a public memorial service at a later date. Burial will be in Deerfield Cemetery. Friends may watch the service at 10:30 a.m. Saturday on Garnand Funeral Home Facebook Live. Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home.
