Charles R. Goodwin
KODAK, Tenn. - Charles R. Goodwin, age 68, died on May 9, 2020, at his home in Kodak, TN. He was born August 2, 1951, in Ulysses, KS, to Charlie C. and Velma (Hitchcock) Goodwin. He attended schools in Ulysses and was a graduate of Liberal Vocational Technical School, Liberal, KS.
He had owned a service station in Liberal and for many years installed stereo equipment for Kustom Auto in Garden City, before moving to Tennessee to care for his father. He worked for several companies in Cookeville,TN, before his retirement.
Charlie was gifted musician and played with Sandhill River Band in Southwest Kansas. Charlie was a Christian and followed the Baptist faith where ever he lived. He had served as a officer, usher and song leader at his churches.
On October 8, 1995, Charlie married Rita Turner, who survives him. He is also survived by a son, Nick (Jessica) Goodwin of Ottawa, KS, three daughter, Kim (Troy) Hirt of Rockdale, TX, Angie Methvin of Hutto, TX, and Nichole Goodwin of Newton, KS; three step-sons, Billy Turner of Kodak, TN, Mike Southard of Georgia, and Jonathan Southard of Pigeon Forge, TN; a step-daughter, Misty Southard of Knoxville, TN; nine grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He also survived by two sisters, Helen Christensen of Lake Suzy, FL and Ellen O’Dell of Garden City, KS; a brother-in-law, Jimmy Turner of McMinville, TN, and five sisters-in- law, Janice Turner of McMinville, TN, Ann Bowen of Kernersville, NC, Brenda Basham and Nancy Sanders of Morrison, TN, and Lu Goodwin-Mark of Austin, TX.
Charile was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Burnus Goodwin, two brothers-in-law, Duane Christensen and Gordon O’Dell and a nephew Eric O’Dell.
Because of COVID-19, a memorial service and burial of his ashes will take place at a later date. Whitson Funeral Home of Cookeville is helping with arrangements.
