SCOTT CITY — Joseph Gerstner, 88, died on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2019, at the Scott County Hospital in Scott City. He was born on March 6, 1931, in Trego County, Kan., the son of Jacob J. and Marcianna Rohleder Gerstner.
A resident of Scott City since 1966 moving from Trego County, he was a soil conservationist and was the owner and operator of Joe Gerstner Terracing since 1966 retiring in 1999.
Joe was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War. On June 13, 1959 he married Sandra Crowl in Scott City. She survives.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Gerstner of Scott City; two sons, Terry Gerstner of Hutchinson and Denis Gerstner of Scott City; one daughter, Sonia Baker of Leoti; two brothers, Rudy Gerstner of Sun Valley, Ariz., Wendy Gerstner of Trego, Kan.; one sister, Caroline Klaus of Hays; 10 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, eight brothers and sisters and one infant daughter.
Vigil services will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Scott City. Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Scott City. Interment will be in the Scott County Cemetery in Scott City. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Scott City.
