NEWTON — Billy Ray Henson, 72, died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2019, at Newton Medical Center in Newton, Kan. He was born April 1, 1947, in Seymour, Mo., the son of Hiram and Alta (Henry) Henson.

Billy moved to Ulysses with his family at a young age. He attended Ulysses schools until he entered U.S. Naval training in Great Lakes, Ill. He was honorably discharged from the United States Navy in 1968 after serving aboard during the Vietnam War.

Billy married Marsha Patton on May 28, 1970, in Ulysses, where they resided until 2001. Billy retired from Southern Star as an oiler repairman in 2007.

Billy is survived by his wife, Marsha of their home; sons, Brandon Henson of Ulysses and Joe Henson of Nashville; daughter, Amy Morrison of Newton; brothers, Kenny Henson of Ulysses and Danny Henson of Amarillo, Texas; and sister, Jeleta White of Ulysses. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Brian.

A memorial service will be held at a later date with inurnment at the Ulysses Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Victory in the Valley in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880. Condolences may be posted at www.garnandfuneralhomes.com.
