TRIBUNE — Bernard "Bernie" Nemechek, 90, died on Oct. 29, 2019, at the Greeley County Long Term Care in Tribune. He was born on Nov. 3, 1928, in Ellis, Kan., to parents Frank and Regina Nemecek.
He married Joyce L. Smith on May 22, 1948, in Sharon Springs, Kan. Bernie was a long time businessman in Tribune. He owned and operated Southside Service and retired to Sun City, Ariz., where he a Joyce lived for many years. Following a long and wonderful retirement in Arizona, Bernie and Joyce decided to return to Tribune due to declining health. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sun City and the United Methodist Church in Tribune. He volunteered for his church as well as many Sun City community projects.
He is survived by his children, Trudy Thorburn and husband John of Buffalo, Wyo., Bren Nemechek and wife Beth of Tribune, and Blake Nemechek and wife Carmelle of Colorado Springs, Colo.; seven grandchildren, Ryan Thorburn and wife Nicole, Jenna Thorburn, Amy Michalczyk and husband Pete, Rhett Thorburn, Nick Nemechek and wife Jenifer, Andrew Nemechek and Cody Nemechek; and eight great-grandchildren, Madelyn, Gabrielle, Addison, Hayden, Peyton, Rylee, Harper and Hadley.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Rose Martino and Mary Blackburn; and brothers, Joe, Frank and Ernest Nemechek.
Bernie will be laid to rest on Monday Nov. 4 in the Greeley County Cemetery following graveside services at at 11 a.m. MT.
Memorials may be designated to the United Methodist Church in Tribune or the Greeley County Long Term Care in Tribune and may be left at the services or mailed to Koons-Russell Funeral Home, 211 N. Main Ave., Goodland, KS 67735.
