Betty Jean Byer, 95, died Friday, Oct. 18, 2019, at The Ranch House in Garden City. She was born Feb. 15, 1924, in Lewis, Kan., the daughter of Harold and Syvilla Ann (Strawn) Black.
Betty grew up and attended schools in Cimarron. On July 19, 1941, she married Harold “Bud” Byer, Jr. in Cimarron. The couple moved to Garden City in 1987 and have lived there ever since. A homemaker and farm wife, Betty enjoyed crocheting, gardening, sewing, arranging flowers and she especially loved to spend time with her family.
Betty is survived by four daughters, Barbara Jean Adams of Garden City, Yvonne Annette Yost of Hays, Debra Jane Atkinson of Garden City and Cynthia Diane Frazier of Centennial, Colo.; five grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud, who died on April 26, 2016; her parents; a daughter, Judith Deanne Byer; and two brothers, William Black and Robert Black.
A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 21 at the Cimarron Cemetery. Friends could call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday and from 9 a.m. to noon Monday, all at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City.
