TRIBUNE — James F. Ballinger, 78, died on Sunday, Oct. 13, 2019, at Greeley County Long Term Care in Tribune. He was born on Dec. 5, 1940, in Protection, Kan., the son of James M. & Bessie (Ewing) Ballinger.

James grew up and graduated from high school at Walsh, Colo. After completing his education, he worked for Osteen Electric and farmed with his family before moving to Johnson and working at the Co-op Grocery Store. In 1969, he moved to Tribune and was the assistant manager at Gooch’s Foods for the rest of his career. He married Alena R. Diller on Nov. 15, 1963, in Johnson.

He is survived by his wife, Alena Ballinger; two daughters, Sloan L. Shafer and husband Kevin of Tribune and Bridget Rae Ballinger of Hays; son, James Bart Ballinger and wife Jennifer of Goddard; sister, Catherine Dillon of Pueblo, Colo.; and four grandchildren, Bryce Shafer, Paige Shafer, Megan Peitz and Taylor Ballinger.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ronald Ballinger; four sisters, Elsie Hammond, Alice Murray, Ilene Herron and Bonnie Jones.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. MDT Friday at the First Baptist Church in Tribune. Burial will be in Greeley County Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Greeley County Long Term Care in care of Garnand Funeral Home. Condolences may be posted at www.garnandfuneralhomes.com.
