ELKHART — Glenn Edward Brewer, 88, died Friday, Oct. 4, 2019, at Morton County Senior Living Community. He was born June 13, 1931, in Elkhart to Edd and Ida (Gillaspie) Brewer, who owned a farm South of Elkhart.
Glenn graduated high school in Elkhart and received a football scholarship from Oklahoma Panhandle State University (then Panhandle A&M), where he played all four years. He was a member of the All Star Football team his senior year. After graduating from OPSU, he joined the U.S. Army for two years, serving one year in Germany. After his discharge from the service, Glenn returned to the farm to help his dad with the farming and ranching.
On August 17, 1958, Glenn married Selma Haar. They were married for 35 years before Selma died in November of 1993.
Glenn is survived by one son, Tom Brewer of Elkhart; one daughter, Jolinda Brumley of Borger, Texas; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ruth Simmons of Elkhart. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Selma; and sister, Minnie Lou Chestnut.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First Church of God in Elkhart. Burial will follow at the Elkhart Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Garnand Funeral Home in Elkhart.
