Andrew Lee Allen Sr., 71, died Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2019, at his home in Garden City. He was born Aug. 30, 1948, in Chanute, Kan., to Andrew Edward and Rosie Irene (Moore) Allen.

Andrew moved with his family to Garden City when he was a child and attended Garden City schools. He was a member of the Eagle’s Lodge in Garden City and he enjoyed collecting antiques, windmills, demolition derbies and working on cars. On January 21, 1967, he married Rosemarie “Rosie” Otterstetter in Garden City.

He began his working career in the oil fields. He later worked in power line construction, where he worked for Post & Brown and Wheatland Electric. Later, Andrew worked for IBP and Con-Agri.

Andrew is survived by his wife, Rosie; three children, Mary Rose Kisela of Pennsylvania, Tina Marie Bowley and husband Alan of Abilene, Kan., and Timothy E. Allen and wife Michelle of Holcomb; two sisters, Nellie Rose Smith of Oregon and Frankie Grimsley of Wichita; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Andrew Lee Allen Jr.; and a brother, Robert Dean Allen.

A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. There will be no calling hours. The family suggests memorials given to the Andrew Allen Memorial Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City. Condolences may be given at garnandfuneralhomes.com.
