ULYSSES — Ed Ybarra, 79, died Monday, Sept. 16, 2019, at Ascension Via Christi Hospital St. Francis in Wichita. He was born Oct. 17, 1939, in Lubbock, Texas, to Crispin and Josefina (Gomez) Ybarra.

Ed grew up in Munday, Texas. In 1964, he moved to Ulysses and went to work for several companies, eventually retiring from Williams Natural Gas. On Nov. 5, 1957, Ed married Corina Velasquez in Munday, Texas.

He is survived by his wife, Corina; one daughter, Debra Maupin of Ulysses; one son, Michael Ybarra of Ulysses; two brothers, Candido Ybarra of Ulysses and Juan Ybarra of Phoenix; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Reymundo Mata, Epifanio Mata, Domingo Mata and Alberto Mata; three sisters, Tiodora Rodriguez, Maria Ybarra and Guadalupe Diaz; and one great-granddaughter; Ezri Chavez Ybarra.

Vigil and rosary service was at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday, both at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses. Interment will follow at Ulysses Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses.
