MARIENTHAL — Clyde Luke Scheffe, 89, died on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2019, at Greeley County Hospital in Tribune. Clyde was born Feb. 5, 1930, in Windthorst, Texas, to Henry Luke and Catherine Ann (Zihlman) Scheffe.
Clyde attended high school at St. Mary Catholic School in Marienthal and then worked on the family farm until he left for the service. Clyde served his country in the United States Army, 101st Airborne Division and 81st Engineers during the Korean Conflict. After he was discharged, he headed back to Kansas in 1954 and met the love of his life.
On Feb. 19, 1957, he married Inella Marie Baker in Marienthal. The couple soon moved back to Wichita County, where Clyde took up farming.
Clyde is survived by his wife, Inella Scheff of Marienthal; children, Clyde Scheffe Jr. of Yoder, Colo., Karen Dierks of Olathe, Lonnie Scheffe of Lees Summit, Mo., Curtis Scheffe of Aledo, Texas, Kelly Scheffe of Hutchinson, Bryant Scheffe of Plymouth, Minn., Dr. Sheila Weaver of Tribune and Shane Scheffe of Marienthal; siblings, Gladys Wolf, Marie Vietenheimer, Bernard Scheffe and Bobby Scheffe, all of Windthorst, Texas, Catherine Carlton and Evelyn Scheffe of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Francis Scheffe of Amarillo, Texas; 16 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings, Earl Scheffe, Henry Scheffe Jr. and Mildred Koetter.
Vigil services will be held 7 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marienthal. Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marienthal. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery in Marienthal. Memorials may be given to Clyde Scheffe Memorial Fund in Care of Price and Sons Funeral Home.
