Phyllis Louise Bond, 88, died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2019 at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City. She was born Aug. 22, 1930 in Taloga, Okla., to Orville S. & Leona M. (Todd) Bond.

Phyllis settled in Crowley, Colo., in 1942 and graduated from high school in 1948. In July 1948, she married Cecil “John” Van Meter in Raton, N.M. They became the proud parents of Johnny Lee, Debbra Raye and Ricky Jay Van Meter. Later in life, Phyllis married Robert “Bob” Loper.

Phyllis was a member of Turning Point Church of the Nazarene in Garden City, a life member of ESA, the Crowley County Heritage Society, Finney County Senior Center, the Red Hat Society, VFW Auxiliary, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed her volunteer work, camping, family activities, her country, family and the Lord.

Phyllis is survived by her three children, Johnny Lee Van Meter and wife Ruth of Kersey, Colo., Debbra Raye Van Meter of Ft. Collins, Colo., and Ricky Jay Van Meter and wife Darlene of Garden City; a sister, Bobbie Chiles of Castle Rock, Colo.; fourteen grandchildren; thirty-four great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John, who died on Dec. 20, 1992; her parents; a sister, JoAnn Reeder and husband Richard; a brother, Larry Bond and wife Ann; a brother-in-law, Norman Chiles; a grandson, Jerimy Van Meter; a great-grandson, Jaycab Van Meter; and a great-great-granddaughter, Amber Rose Bate.

A celebration of life service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Turning Point Church of the Nazarene in Garden City. A private family interment will take place at a later date. There will be no calling hours.
