Josephine Otero, 80, died Aug. 17, 2019, at her home in Wichita. She was born May 21, 1939, in Garden City to Santiago and Louisa (Navarro) Ramirez.

Josephine was born and raised in Garden City. On April 27, 1957, she married Daniel S. Otero at St. Mary Catholic Church in Garden City. He died Dec. 6, 2010.

Josephine and Daniel moved to Chicago and relocated to Garden City in the mid-1970s. She owned and operated Josie’s Country Store with her husband.

She is survived by her children, Victor Otero of Garden City, Dan Otero of Wichita, Mary and Tim Jamieson of Wichita, Shirley and Fernando Arteaga of Garden City, Dolores Otero of Wichita and Ralph Otero of Wichita; siblings, Dolores Pena, Rose Gonzalez and Connie Palacios; eight grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by parents and siblings, Mary Lou Baca, Lupe Minjarez and infant Andrew Bravo.

The rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday and funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, both at St. Mary Catholic Church in Garden City. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. Calling hours are from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Garnand Funeral Home, 412 N. Seventh Street, Garden City.
